Product Of The Culture

Allen Iverson. Willie Nelson. Princess Diana. TD Jakes. What do all these people have in common? Absolutely nothing… and yet everything to me.

This is my culture. This is a reflection of how I was raised.

We all have a culture. A set of thoughts, perspectives and beliefs that shape who we are. Good, bad & indifferent. These stories, figures & moments shape us from the day we are born. They give us scripts and narratives on what to value and who to be.

The older I have gotten the more I have learned to embrace and assess the culture I was raised in. In learning it’s strengths and weakness I have learned how to appreciate who I am and yet get insight into who I want to become.

What made your culture? Who made you who you are?

My encouragement for anyone reading this is to assess… what made your culture? Who made you who you are? What are things to keep and what do you need to let go of?

We all have beauty resting on the inside of us that was deposited from our family of origin, ethnic background, favorite artist, icon or figure.

The question is not if you are a product of the culture but what has the culture produced in you.

My encouragement. Learn it, love it and live it!

Grace & Peace,
Charles
